Hot off the Press!
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is a grassroots, member-led organization whose goal is to build a mass socialist movement. Southern Maine DSA (SMDSA) was incorporated in 2017 and includes DSA members who live and/or work in Maine.
As of January 2019, SMDSA had roughly 400 members. Two branches were formed in 2018: Eastern Maine (covering Penobscot County) and Midcoast (covering Lincoln, Knox, Sagadahoc, and Waldo Counties). Five or more members may form a branch via petition to the Chapter, which then must be approved by the membership.
We believe in democracy from below. Our chapter is led entirely by members. Our Steering Committee – two Co-Chairs, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and a number of At-Large Members – is elected by members each year at our General Membership Meeting in January.
We hold one General Membership Meeting per month that is open to the public. The Steering Committee meets at least once a month. Committees and branches set their own meeting schedules. See our calendar for upcoming meetings and events. Members of the press should review our Recording Policy before attending our meetings. Contact us directly for statements/quotes.
